Meshailay Thomas enters her 7th year of coaching track & field and her first season as Assistant Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Track & Field program at Freedom High School.
Before coming to Freedom High School, Meshailay coached the girl’s track team at Rippon Middle School. While at Rippon the girl’s team never finished lower than second place, and had several individual and relay champions. Under Coach Thomas’ supervision, the Raiders’ sprinters were always among the top finishers, as well as her jumpers, 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Her first coaching stop was as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Woodbridge High School. During her 2 years at Woodbridge, she helped several athletes qualify to participate at the VHSL AAA State championships. Her track resume also includes numerous regional and district qualifiers, and regional and district champions.
While at Woodbridge, Thomas ran varsity track were she excelled in the 55, 100, and 200 meter dashes as well as the 400meter and 1600 meter relay. She continued her running career at Christopher Newport University. During her 3 years at CNU, she was an eight time All American, captured 3 NCAA championship and one record, was inducted to CNU’s Hall of Fame, has the 3rd fastest time in the 55 meter dash, and still holds the CNU record in the 4x100 meter dash.
Thomas graduated in 2000 from CNU with a Bachelors of Art degree in fitness management. She currently is a Physical Education Teacher at Freedom High School. She and her husband, Karl, live in Dumfries with their three daughters, Jorden 8, Kai 2, and new born baby girl Laila.
