Leroy Worley enters his 13th year of coaching cross country and track & field and his fourth season as Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field programs at Freedom High School.

 

Prior to his arrival to Freedom High School, his coaching stops include Southwestern College in Kansas where he served as a student assistant for two years; Virginia High School in Bristol where he served one season as a volunteer assistant coach, four years as head coach of the girls track team, two years as head coach of the boys track team, and three years as the head coach of the boys and girls cross country teams.

 

During his tenure with the Bearcats, the program’s achievements included 14 All-State athletes, including a state champion at 100m Dash, 63 All-Region athletes, including 10 Region IV champions and 159 All-District athletes, including 54 Highlands District champions. In addition, Coach Worley’s 1998 girls track squad won the Highlands District and Region IV Championships and placed fourth at the outdoor VHSL AA State championships. This was the highest accomplishment for the Lady Bearcats since 1982.

 

He also coached for two years at Forest Park where he served as assistant head coach of the boys and girls cross country, indoor and outdoor track squads. While at FPHS, he coached the sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers, during which time the Bruins athlete’s accomplishments included an All-American, who was also a USATF national champion in the triple jump, 5 All-State athletes, including a two-time state champion in the Triple Jump, 6 All-Region athletes, including 2 Northwest Region champions, and 41 All-District athletes, including 2 Cardinal District champions.

 

Worley ran varsity track for three years in high school, and co-holds the school record in the 110m hurdles. He earned All-District, All-Region honors and was a state qualifier in several events. He continued his running career in college at Southwestern College in Kansas where he earned All-Conference and All-District honors in the 400m hurdles.

 

Worley graduated in 1992 from Southwestern College in Kansas with a Bachelors of Art degree in elementary education, and in the Spring of 2000 he completed his certification in library science at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. He currently is the Instructional Technology Resource Teacher at Freedom High School. He and his wife, Wendy, live in Remington and are the proud parents of two children, son Evan Pearson who is 5 and daughter Brenn Elaine who is 2.
